Larry Vohl

Larry Eugene Vohl was born July 16th, 1948 in Humboldt, Nebraska, to Virgil and Frona Vohl.  Larry graduated from Falls City High School in 1966 and enlisted into the Navy a year later. He served his country in Virginia before deploying to Subic Bay, Philippines, working as a radio man. Larry was honorably discharged in 1971 and moved to Omaha to take business classes and begin his drywall business career. Soon after, he launched Iowa Drywall as a distributor for the metro area. In 1973, Larry married Nancy Boatman and moved to Ralston, where they raised sons, Kyle and Neil.

Larry was especially proud of his long range shooting accuracy and scored high marks during his Navy days. Likewise, long range photography was also a passion and over the years he snapped numerous planes and trains as they thundered into town. His aim was also demonstrated in his ability to run the table in 9 ball or snooker. He took opportunities to hunt for unique rocks and fossils, once uncovering a mammoth tooth. Other hobbies included building things, whether that was rebuilding cars, remodeling buildings and homes or model planes and ships. He meticulously researched and recreated scale models of Navy ships he saw while deployed.

Over the years Larry cherished weekly dinners with both sons and more recently, his grandchildren. He passed away Aug. 18, 2024 after a three-year battle with cancer.

Larry is survived by brother, Harry (Jan), of Denver, Colorado; sons, Kyle (Lora) of Ralston; Neil of Omaha; grandchildren, Gemma and Hugh Vohl of Ralston; and numerous cousins, nieces and friends.
