Maurine M. Vice passed away on April 5, 2023 at Falls City, Nebraska, at the age of 93. A daughter of Leonard and Leona (Cooper) Meyerkorth, Maurine Marie was born at Filley, NE on Sept 18, 1929. Her family moved to Dawson when she was a little girl. She grew up on farms in the Dawson, Stella, and Shubert area, graduating from Shubert high school.
Following graduation, she attended summer school at Peru State College and began teaching that fall. She spent the next nine years teaching in various country schools. On May 23, 1948 she was married to Glen F. Vice at the Shubert Christian Church. They made their home in Shubert until they moved to the farm they purchased east of Shubert in May 1957. They resided there until health forced them to leave in 2019.
Maurine enjoyed being a farm wife. She loved her animals, garden and flowers. She was a member of the Grace Emanual Church in Shubert she helped to establish, and for many years, from spring to fall, her flowers graced the Altar. She loved watching the birds that frequented her many feeders and nested in the abundance of trees and bird houses around her yard.
Maurine was known for her card ministry. Not only close family, but extended family, neighbors and friends were often on the receiving end of her cards. She remembered children’s birthdays with a personalized card that included quarters. Any special day was reason to send a card. A sickness or loss was remembered with a card she had carefully chosen for that person.
Maurine is survived by her daughter Tana J (David) Brown of Nemaha, and her son David Vice of Shubert, grandchildren Robert (Danielle) Brown, Kensington, Oh; Ronnie (Lizzie) Brown, Manchester, Oh; and David A. (Tabatha) Brown, Salem, Oh, step-granddaughter, Katie (Joe) Buckminster, Falls City, great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kayleigh, Joshua, Grace, Skyler, Leila, Xander, Katie, and Noah Brown, step-great-granddaughter, Olivia Buckminster. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her 5 sisters, Gladys (Kenneth) Crawley, Fern, (Scoop) Clark, Colene (Emery) Auxier, Eula Mae (Ivan) Parli, Dorothy (Albert) Allen, and her only brother LaVern (Lila) Meyerkorth.
