The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) and its Highway Safety Office – in collaboration with the Pillen administration, Lincoln Fire Department, and Lincoln- Lancaster County Health Department – is hosting an event for National Seat Check Saturday.
The event coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 21-27), with the aim of bringing heightened awareness to how parents and caregivers can keep children safe in vehicles by properly securing child safety seats. NDOT’s Highway Safety Office has partners in several locations across Nebraska that offer no-cost car seat checks and demonstrations.
Recent data suggests that car seat use for newborns to 12 months of age has declined, according to NHTSA, making this event more important than ever. Correctly installed child passenger seats can reduce the risk of fatality for infants by 71% and for toddlers by 54%
