Karen Joy, 83, of Auburn, NE (formerly of Falls City, NE), passed away July 28, 2024 at Auburn. She was born November 13, 1940 at Council Bluffs, IA to Otto and Evelyn (Killian) Kahl.
She married Merle Joy on September 16, 1962 at Mineola, IA. He passed away January 18, 2015.
Karen was raised on a farm near Mineola and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School at Council Bluffs. She then enrolled in nursing school and graduated as an RN July of 1962. She started her nursing career at Sunny Court Nursing Home in Falls City. She remained in the field into her 70’s with many years working at the Falls City Hospital and area nursing homes. She moved to Auburn in May of 2021 to be near her daughter. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, for many years, before moving to Auburn.
Karen is survived by her children, Jennifer Krug of Auburn, Michael of St. Joseph, MO, Matthew and his wife Holly of Plattsmouth, NE, brother, Marvin “Bud” Kahl and his wife Marge of Mineola, IA, sister, Elizabeth Young and her husband Bob of Spearfish, SD, grandchildren, Dylan and Tyler Krug, Wyatt Whitney, Maxwell and Ryan Joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Reverend Ken Humphrey officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Steele Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
