Ruth (Frederick) Mullins

Ruth (Frederick) Mullins, 87, of Salem, Nebraska was born on June 13, 1936, on a farm near Rulo, Nebraska to Charles E. and Alice (Bowhay) Frederick.  She graduated from Sacred Heart High School with the class of 1954.  Ruth worked for Southeast Nebraska Telephone Company, Mabel Johnson Insurance Company and other insurance companies in Denver, Colorado and Omaha, Nebraska.  After returning to Salem, Ruth was united in marriage to Don “Jiggs” Mullins on March 23, 1958.  The couple started the Mullins Café (Big Red N) and operated the business until 1962.  In 1969, Ruth started working at Stalder Cattle Company and for Merle Stalder for fifty years before retiring completely in 2019.

Ruth passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Bryan LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of eighty-seven years, four months, and fourteen days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don “Jiggs” Mullins and brothers Edward and Richard Frederick, a sister Dolores Jackson, and brother-in-law Jim McCormack.  Ruth supported her grandsons Jeremy, Nathan, and Troy Mullins obtain Eagle Scout.  She also supported her adopted grandsons Lukas, Daniel, David, and Matthew Goff obtain Eagle Scout.  She was very proud of all seven boys.

Ruth is survived by her son Keith Mullins and wife Donna of South Fulton, TN; grandsons: Jeremy Mullins and wife Laura of Lincoln, NE; Nathan Mullins of Villa Hills, KY; Troy Mullins of South Duxbury, VT; brother Bill Frederick of Falls City, NE; a sister Charlene McCormack of Neosha, MO; great-grandson Tobias Mullins and step-great granddaughter Izabell both of Lincoln, NE; adopted family friend Kim Goff and her families, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church, 17th & Harlan Street in Falls City, Nebraska.

Inurnment will be at the Maple Cemetery in Salem, Nebraska at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
