Elizabeth Dunn, 105, of Falls City, NE, passed away August 8, 2023, at Falls City. She was born January 1, 1918 at Humboldt, NE to George and Caroline (Gunzenhauser) Beutler.
Elizabeth was raised in the Four Mile Area south of Humboldt and she graduated Humboldt High School in 1934 at the age of 16. In the Fall of 1934, she began her teaching career at Rose Dale School south of Humboldt. She then taught at Pleasant Hill School and then at Shubert.
She married Dale M. Dunn on November 29, 1944 at Falls City. The couple established their home in Falls City. Mr. Dunn passed away June 17, 1974.
When married, Elizabeth taught in Falls City from1945 until 1951 when she stopped to raise her family. In 1962 she began teaching again, this time at the Lichty School, District 30, north of Falls City. She taught there until 1969 when she earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Peru State College that summer. This degree was all earned in summer school and night school.
In the Fall of 1969, degree in hand, she was hired to teach Kindergarten at Falls City Public Schools, retiring in 1984.
Elizabeth was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She was a Past Nobel Grand of the Falls City Chapter of Rebekahs.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Dianne Dickson and her husband James of Bennington, NE, Michael and his wife Tami of Falls City, six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Catherine Mendenhall.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Lauri Beach officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to Family Choice for later designation.
