Irene Taylor

Irene Betty Taylor, 92, of Falls City, NE, passed away October 30, 2019. She was born September 20, 1927 to Edward and Olga (Wulf) Selken on the family farm in Lester, IA.

She married John E. Taylor on September 28, 1948 at Calvary Lutheran Church at Lester. He passed away October 11, 1997.

She attended Lester Public School from kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated in 1945. She then located to Sioux City, IA and worked as a nurse’s aide at the Lutheran Hospital. This is where she met her future husband while caring for his sister.

When married the couple lived in Decatur, NE for a short time and then moved to Omaha where all five children were born.

In the spring of 1963 John was transferred to Falls City to manage the Hinky Dinky Food Market. Irene spent most of her married life as a homemaker but did work for 10 years as a nurse’s aide at the Falls City Community Hospital. She loved to bake and sew. She sewed many raggedy Anns and Andys for all her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Guild.

Irene is survived by her sons, Greg and Gary both of Adrian, MO, daughters, Pamela Lovelace and her husband Mark of Adrian, MO, Beth Taylor of Falls City, eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Kent, daughter-in-law, Janet Taylor, four brothers and two sisters.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Steele Cemetery with Reverend Tim Llewellyn officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
