Harry W. Morrison, 96, passed away on August 9, 2019. He was born on September 26, 1922, at his grandfather’s farm (Joseph Edgar Morrison). His parents were Warren Edgar Morrison and Grace Lula (Scoby) Morrison. Harry had one brother who preceded him in death, Charles Morrison. Harry attended “Five Point Country School” for first through fifth grade. In 1933, his parents moved to town, and Harry attended Falls City Jr. High and one year of high school. Then, his family moved to Yakima, Washington, where he finished at Yakima High School in 1940.
Harry enlisted in the U.S. Navy on October 25, 1940. He served on the U.S.S. Nevada, U.S.S. Wyoming, and U.S.S. P.C.E. 897 (weather ship in the Pacific). During his service, he earned American Defense, Navy Good Conduct, American Theatre of War, Asiatic Pacific Theatre of War and WWII Victory medals. After the war, Harry worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 13 ½ years. In 1959, he started a yard grading business in Omaha for 22 years. After that he worked 15 ½ years at Oak Hills Golf Course. He retired one month before his 75th birthday. Harry was married to Martha (Lucas) Morrison who passed away in August of 2017. They have two children: Dr. Robert W. Morrison (Adria) and Jennifer Harn (Stan); five grandchildren: Dr. Todd Morrison (Jennie), Nikki Russel (Jimmy),Trisha Baney (Chad), Stacy Friendt (Lucas, deceased), Chris Churchill (Laura) and 13 great-grandchildren. Harry will always be remembered for his Navy stories and wonderful sense of humor.
