Thomas Marvin “Tom” Morehead, 74, of in Lincoln passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 following a brave valiant struggle fighting cancer.
Tom was born on April 17, 1944 – the eldest son of Marvin “Shorty” and Clia “Peggy” Morehead and was raised at the family home in Shubert. Tom was educated in the Shubert Public Schools and graduated in 1962. Following graduation Tom as married to Sharon Brazeau of Falls City and the couple made their home in Fairbury where Tom began his career with the Nebraska Department of Roads.
In the peak of the Viet Nam War Tom left his new career to enlisted in the US Army as a recruit for officers candidate school. He was later honorably discharged, and the couple made their new home in Lincoln as Tom resumed his employment with the State. The couple later divorced but Tom continued his career with the Department of Roads having held numerous areas of responsibility until his retirement from there being honored for completing 50 years of service.
Tom was an avid sports fan with a focus on pro baseball and college football being once referred to by famed Irish coach Lou Holtz as Nebraska’s #1 Notre Dame fan. He was also quietly active in his quest to help and support others in the Lincoln area Alcoholics Anonymous
Tom was proceeded in death by his parents to whom he acted as an incredible support and care-giver in their failing years of health. He is survived by one brother, Don Morehead of Waterloo, IA, a nephew and great-nephew Geoff Morehead and Geoff’s son Steven of Des Moines, IA, one aunt, Lillian Whitten of Falls City, a sprinkling of cousins throughout the country and a circle of the most incredibly close friends one could ever hope for whom are based in the Lincoln, Fairbury, Waverly, Kearney and surrounding area communities.
Following cremation, a private memorial service will be held at a future time and date. Memorials may be directed in Tom’s honor to the American Cancer Society, the American Stroke Association or a worthy charitable organization of the donor’s choice. Condolences online at Roperandsons.com.
