Zdenka “Sid” Ann (Cerveny) Nelson

Zdenka “Sid” Ann (Cerveny) Nelson, 82, of Lincoln, was born on May 28, 1936, to Edward and Eleanor (Chalupa) Cerveny in rural Daykin, Nebraska.

Zdenka “Sid” graduated from Wilber High School with the class of 1953 and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year before enrolling in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1957.  

In 1965, she married John N. Nelson of Oakland, Nebraska and together they created a large and busy family. While family was her focus, she worked part-time in numerous hospitals and nursing homes over the years. Nursing was one of her great loves until retiring in 2001. 

Sid took great pride in providing kind and attentive care to her patients. She also cared deeply for animals all throughout her life, spending her last years with her beloved dog, Lulu. 

Sid was a proud Democrat and volunteered with the Democratic Party in several Nebraska counties.  She will be missed dearly by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sid passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband John Nelson, and brothers Kenneth (Patricia) and Roger Cerveny.

Sid is survived by her sons: Dan (Linda) and Kevin (Kelly) Nelson of Omaha; Craig Nelson of Lincoln; John Jr. and Matthew Nelson of Apple Valley, MN; daughters Kirstin Nelson (Mike Small) of Elkridge, MD; Mary Nelson of Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother Ron (Sharon) Cerveny of DeWitt, NE; sister-in-law Jolene Cerveny of Independence, MO; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A Private Inurnment will be held at the Wilber Czech Cemetery in Wilber, Nebraska at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to Falls City Humane Society.
