John A. Bennett, 90, of Falls City, NE, passed away March 27, 2018 at Falls City. He was born November 1, 1927 at Falls City to Thomas and Amanda (Hahn) Bennett.
John was drafted into the U. S. Army on May 23, 1946. He earned a Japan Occupation medal, WWII Medal, Korean Medal with 5 bronze stars. He was honorably discharged on June 13, 1952 at Ft. Benning, GA.
John was raised at Falls City and attended Sacred Heart High School. Following his discharge he returned to Falls City and worked for a bridge builder then moved to Des Moines, IA and worked for Pittsburg Steel and in 1971 he moved to Kalamazoo, MI and worked as head of maintenance for Western Michigan University, retiring in 1993 and returning to Falls City and has lived here since. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lifetime member of VFW and 720th M. P. Association.
John is survived by his sisters, Mary Alice Cooke of Lawrence, KS, Marjorie Lyons of Falls City and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sarah Barton and brothers, Tom, Ed, Don and James Bennett.
A Mass of Christian Burial were held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas Dunavan as the presiding priest. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Dawson. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.
A Parish Rosary were recited on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. The family greeted friends following the rosary.
