Betty J. Howard

Betty J. Howard, 93, of Falls City, was born on February 3, 1924, in Nemaha, to Samuel P. and Eva (Leslie) Gillespie. She grew up in the Nemaha area and attended schools in Nemaha and Brownville.

When she was twelve years old, Betty was baptized at the Brownville Christian Church. On December 24, 1940, Betty was united in marriage to Delbert Howard in Brownville, Nebraska by Betty’s step-grandfather J.W. Sapp. The couple began their marriage living in the Nemaha area until moving to Falls City in 1963.

Betty worked as a clerk for 15 years at the JcPenny in Falls City. She and Delbert moved to Shubert in 1979. While living in Shubert, Betty was a member of the Christian Church, Shubert American Legion Auxiliary, and Prairie Union Cemetery Association. Betty passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Falls City Healthcare Community in Falls City, having reached the age of ninety-three years, eleven months, and fifteen days.

Betty is survived by her nieces: Cora Lee Lippold and husband Kenneth of Falls City, Jo Anne Hatfield of Arlington, TX; a brother Milo Sapp and wife Linda of Aurora, CO; sister-in-law Jaclyn “Jackie” Sapp of Lincoln, NE; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Delbert, brothers: Sam (Mary) Gillespie, Robert (Hazel) Gillespie, Oliver Sapp, Joe Sapp Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Prairie Union Cemetery rural Shubert, Nebraska with Pastor Gene Rowel officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at The Hall Funeral Home in Falls City. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Prairie Union Cemetery Association or Shubert Christian Church. Services are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home- 2403 Harlan St.-Falls City, Nebraska (402) 245-3131.
