BETTY LAVERNA STUKENHOLTZ
Betty LaVerna Stukenholtz, 78, of Nebraska City, passed away on Jan. 14, 2017 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. Betty was born March 12, 1938 in Nebraska City, the daughter of Vernon A. and Alice (Otto) Stukenholtz.
Betty formerly lived in Virginia and Lincoln before returning to the Nebraska City area in 2003. She worked as a secretary in various government offices, including the Department of the Navy and Congressman Phil Weaver in Washington, D.C. and served as Nebraska Deputy State Treasurer under Frank Marsh. She also worked at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln for a time. Upon her return to Nebraska City, she purchased Harmony Rural School and opened Monkey Business. She was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln, Questers, Otoe County Genealogical Society and the Lincoln Mayor’s Friendship Committee. Betty started the Nebraska Country School Association and the Annual Country School Conference, which is still ongoing. Survivors include her brother, Alan (Carol) Stukenholtz, of Auburn; niece and nephews, Elaine Karel of Johnson; Bill (Cari) Stukenholtz, of Lincoln; Ty (Beth) Stukenholtz, of Auburn; Jay (Mary) Stukenholtz, of Nebraska City; Rod (Julie) Stukenholtz, of Merrill, IA; sister in law, Joyce Stukenholtz of Pharr, TX; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Stukenholtz; infant sister, Mary Alice Stukenholtz and nephew, Mitchell Stukenholtz.
A joint memorial service for Betty and her brother, Wayne Stukenholtz will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 M Street in Lincoln. Private burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
There will be no viewing or visitations, however friends the family may sign a memorial register book 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Friday at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City.
