Willa (Richardson) Moyer, 89, of Humboldt, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at her home. She was born on Feb. 22, 1927, in Summerfield, KS, to John and Ella (Volle) Richardson.
She attended country school through the 8th grade at District No. 6 south of Pawnee City, NE, and later graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1947.
On Oct. 25, 1947, Willa married Walter Moyer in Seneca, KS. The couple established their home east of Humboldt, moved to Pawnee City for two years, but then returned to their farm. After the death of Walter, Willa moved into Humboldt Housing in December of 1992. She worked as a waitress, then was employed for many years at Merritt’s Discount Store. After retiring, she worked part-time at the Bruun Memorial Library.
Willa was a devoted member of The Christian Church in Humboldt where she served in many different capacities and served for many years on the Humboldt Housing Board.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; son, John; grandson, Adam Gaede; great-great grandson, Carter Payne; brothers, Harold “Bud” and Keith Richardson; and a sister, Helen (Leonard) Church.
Willa is survived by her daughters, Sharon Mackey, of Falls City, Betty (Jerry) Van Winkle, of Beatrice, Janice (Mike) Desmond, of Ozawkie, KS; daughter-in-law, Nancy Moyer, of rural DuBois; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Verna Mae Richardson, of Pawnee City; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held Monday, April 18, 2016 at The Christian Church in Humboldt, with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating. Interment at the Humboldt Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family’s choice. Wherry Mortuary, Humboldt, is in charge of arrangements.
