Harry D. Gibbs, 77, of Nebraska City, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Crestview Care Center in Milford. He was born to the late Delbert Sr. and Melissa (Solomon) Gibbs on Nov. 6, 1938, at home in White Cloud.
Harry attended school until the 8th grade, when he started working on the family farm. He had 10 siblings and he was the third to the youngest.
He was in the Hiawatha (KS) National Guard for 10 years and he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years as a track welder.
He married Glenda West in Falls City on June 3, 1961. They were married for 40 years when Glenda passed away on Aug. 31, 2001.
Harry is survived by two children, Dona (William) Brhel, of Milford, and Michael (Deone) Gibbs, of Nebraska City; grandchildren, Joshua (Jenn) Gibbs, of Bellevue, Zachary Gibbs and Anthony Gibbs, both of Lincoln, and Melissa, Melanie and Tyler Brhel, all of Milford; great-grandson, Oliver Gibbs, of Bellevue; sisters, Neoma Flett and Rebecca (John) Spaight; brothers, Delbert Gibbs, Jr. and Jerry (Sandy) Gibbs, all of Kansas; mother-in-law, Maxine Gross; brother-in-law, Roger (Lorita) West, Jr.; sister-in-law, Judy (Dennis) Mellage, all of Falls City; and sister-in-law, Carol (Robert) Frederick, of Blair; many nieces and nephews.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda; sisters, Lillian Meyer and Mary Burnett; and brothers, Robert, Joseph and Marvin Gibbs; brothers-in-law, Pete Burnett, Keith Meyers and Stan Flett; and sisters-in-law, Laura and Glenna Gibbs.
He loved to attend auctions and go fishing and hunting and visit with family, most importantly his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. Burial followed at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City. A Memorial Fund in Harry’s name is being established.
