Dorothy J. Eickhoff, 75, of Unadilla, passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015 after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. She was born May 14, 1940 in Shubert to Norman H. and Daisy Isadore (Hall) Gates.
Dorothy moved to a farm north of Falls City. It was at this farm she would meet a handsome redhead, Delbert Eickhoff, who later would become her husband of almost 55 years. In May 1961, she and Delbert were married during a two-week leave from the Army. To this union two children were born, Denise and Darin. Dorothy worked as a school secretary for Faith Lutheran Church and school in Lincoln for 15 years, until her retirement in 2007.
She loved going to dances, auctions, and looked forward to her evening phone calls with special friends. Dorothy was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert; daughter, daughter, Denise (Mark) Moerer, of Unadilla; son, Darin (Kimi) Eickhoff, of Lincoln; grandchildren, Justin, Jonathan, McKayla, Danielle, Kirsten and Shannon; great-grandsons, Asher and Deklin; sisters, JoAnn Eisele, of Indianola, IA, and Norma Brittell, of Falls City; sister-in-law, Darlene (Larry) Douthit, of Lincoln; nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and loved ones.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Charles Hall and Ethel (Beason) Hall, and Clennie Gates and Mittie (Ankrom) Gates; an infant brother; aunts and uncles; a brother-in-law; and nephew.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at Roper and Sons Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Pastor Robert Wentzel officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Union Cemetery, Shubert. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-8. Memorials to the family for future designation.
