RONALD L. GOULD

Ronald Lloyd Gould, 75, of rural Humboldt, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln after an eight-year battle with chronic lymphoid leukemia. He was born on July 4, 1939, in Humboldt to Lloyd and Ila (Kuper) Gould.

Ron grew up in Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High in 1957. He first worked in the printing department of O.A. Cooper, eventually becoming manager. On April 2, 1961, Ron married Bette Rist in Humboldt. The couple later divorced.

As a young man, Ron played trombone with “Bob Blecha and the Bouncin’ Czechs” for a few years. Due to growing job responsibilities and his daughters’ activities, he had to give it up. In 1980, Central Soya bought out Cooper and Ron was transferred to their plant in Kansas City, MO, where he managed the KC Printing Dept., printing and shipping tags and envelopes to more than 30 mills nation-wide.

On Aug. 5, 1988, he married Barbara (Rexroth) Wenzl in Lincoln.

In 1989, Central Soya’s Kansas City mill closed and Ron finished his printing career working for various commercial printers. During that time, he was featured in an article in the Kansas City Star on his quality workmanship. In 2002, Ron and Barb purchased a small acreage south of Humboldt, both retired on July 1 of that year and moved home. Ron then got out his old trombone and joined “The Happy Czechs”, which played for fun at nursing homes and other various events. He loved playing with the group and singing in the community choir. Ron and Barb spent a lot of their time fishing until recently, when Ron’s health began to decline. He was a member of the Humboldt Lions Club for 15 years and the United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Don; and brothers-in-law, DD Davis and Dean Duesenberry.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barb, of the home; daughters, Ronda (Terry) Dreher, of Greeley, CO, and Debra Boehm, of Lincoln; sisters, Betty Davis, of Glenwood, IA, and Ardis Duesenberry, of Atlantic, IA; step-children, Don (Nancy) Wenzl, of Lincoln, Deborah (Kory) Reed, and Marty (Kelli) Wenzl, all of Lincoln, and Ginger (Pat) O’Reily, of Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law, Larry (Carol) Rexroth, of Humboldt; sister-in-law, Charlotte Fieselman, of Miami, FL; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
