E. Marcelle Handley, 91, of Troy, KS, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Wathena Nursing & Rehab. She was born on Jan. 18, 1924 to Sherman & Elizabeth (Kirkendall) Alexander.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Troy. Marcelle worked for JC Penney in Office Payroll & Personnel. She enjoyed writing poetry on a variety of subjects, also enjoying reading, baking, cooking and trying new recipes.
Marcelle married Logan Handley on May 15, 1955 in Shubert. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marvin, Dearle and Norman Alexander; and two infant granddaughters.
Marcelle is survived by her sons, Larry (Sharon) Handley, of Troy, Lynn (Shirley) Handley, of Wathena, KS, and Logan (June) Handley Jr., of Richmond, VA; daughters, Barbara (Jan) Laipple, of Wathena, and Debbie Handley, of Kansas City, MO; sister, Oneida Mae Chandler, of Falls City; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at First Christian Church in Troy. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Troy. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday. Burial will be held at Fanning (KS) Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Fanning Cemetery Fund.
