DONNA K. (OVERFIELD) WINKER

Donna Kay (Overfield) Winker, 60, of Humboldt, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society in Auburn. She was born Feb. 3, 1954 in Falls City to Don and Mary (Mullins) Overfield.  

Donna attended Chadron Elementary School through the 3rd grade and then Holbrook Elementary School through 6th grade. After her family moved, Donna attended public school in Humboldt, where she graduated from Humboldt High School with the Class of 1972. Donna continued her education at Peru State College and later received her LPN degree from Southeast Community College in Beatrice.   

Donna was united in marriage to Eldon Paul Hunzeker from June 18, 1972 until 1979. To this union four children, Kari, Nathan, Eric and Aaron were born. Donna spent most of her life in Humboldt, where she lived and raised her four children. She worked as a nurse’s aide and LPN in hospitals and nursing homes in southeast Nebraska. In April of 1991, Donna was united in marriage to Bruce Anthony Edward Winker in Humboldt. After the passing of her husband, she continued to devote her life to the raising of her children and, later, her grandchildren.

Donna was a member of The Christian Church in Humboldt, where she attended services and Bible study regularly. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching sports, cross-stitching, poetry, drawing, and word puzzles. Her favorite entertainment was watching grandchildren play sports, especially baseball, basketball, football and volleyball. She became a resident of Colonial Acres Nursing Home and later Good Samaritan Society when her health began to decline.

She was preceded in death by husband Bruce Winker and her father Don Overfield.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Kari (Mike) Preclik, of The Czech Republic; sons, Nathan (Lisy) Hunzeker, of Altavista, VA, Eric (Amberly) Hunzeker, of Lincoln, Aaron (Melinda) Hunzeker, of Humboldt; 10 grandchildren; mother, Mary Overfield, of Humboldt; sisters, Debbie (Dan) James, Deane Overfield and Darcy Weldon, all of Humboldt; brother, Dan (Cindy) Overfield, of Auburn; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at The Christian Church in Humboldt, with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment at the Humboldt Cemetery.
