DANIEL M. ROONEY

Daniel Michael Rooney, 59, died Sept. 7, 2014, in Alexandria, MN.

The son of Leonard and Viola (Lokowitch) Rooney, he was born Aug. 24, 1955, in Portland, OR. Dan was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Portland. His family moved to rural Brooten, MN, when he was young and he grew up there on a farm. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sedan where he was confirmed in 1969. He attended school in Brooten and graduated from Brooten High School in 1973.

Along with working on the family farm, after graduation Dan began working at 3M in Alexandria. Shortly thereafter he took over the family farm. He started working at WASP in Glenwood in 1987. He was transferred to Falls City, for work in February 1989 and continued to work in Nebraska as the plant supervisor for the next 18 years. In July 2007 Dan transferred back to Glenwood to be close to his family. He retired in December 20l0. Dan was married and was blessed with three children, Patrick, Jason and Amy.

Dan was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a devoted member of St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten. He enjoyed playing cards, Yahtzee, playing sports with his kids and grandchildren and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time on the farm, gardening, going for drives and spending time with family and friends. He loved the Minnesota Vikings and was a dedicated Vikings fan regardless of their performance. He will be remembered for his soft-spoken, quiet manner, his quiet yet witty sense of humor and his deep faith in God and devotion to Our Lady.

Dan is survived by his sons, Patrick (Nicole) Rooney, of Glenwood, and Jason (special friend Heather Schmitz) Rooney, of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Amy (Jason) VanZee, of Glenwood; grandchildren, Peyton Rooney, Dylan, Jackson and Paisley VanZee; sisters, Carol Rooney, of Brooten, Marilyn Lysen, of Glenwood, and Jean Rooney, of Rochester; brothers, Ronald (Ilona) Rooney, of Emily, Thomas Rooney, of Brooten, Timothy Rooney, of Montrose and Anthony (Sandy) Rooney, of Sedan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Viola Rooney.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten, with Fr. Mark Ostendorf officiating. Pat Loxtercamp was organist. Casketbearers were: Ronald Rooney, Thomas Rooney, Timothy Rooney, Anthony Rooney, Casey Wildman, Jim Prater and Donald Steinhofer.

Interment was at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Sedan, MN.
