The Falls City Travelers 18-and-Under Softball Team captured the USSSA Class C World Series title Saturday night in Topeka, KS, putting the finishing touches on a sensational 43-9-1 season — and era — that goes down as the best in the 18-year history of Travelers Softball.
“This 18-Under team has surpassed anything any other team has done in 18 years,” Travelers founder and coach Carl Messner said. “That was accomplished last week with 2nd place in Class B State and solidified this week with winning the World Series. I’ve had this team for the last four years and they have improved so much in that time.”
In the addition to the 43 victories, the team went 6-0 and won the “Beat the Heat” Tournament in early June in Lincoln, finished runner-up at the “June Bug Jam” June 14-15 in Beatrice, won the USSSA Class C State Championship in Lincoln June 22, took first at the Palmyra Tournament at the end of June and then finished runner-up at the ASA Class B State Tournament July 13 in Norfolk.
