SAM THOMAS

Sam Thomas, 69, of Nebraska City, died May 10, 2014 at Big Lake, MO. He was born May 9, 1945 at Puyallup, WA, to the late James and Harriett (Rader) Thomas.

He married Jane Mellage on June 28, 1968 in Falls City.

Sam was raised in southeast Nebraska and graduated from Shubert High School in 1963. Following graduation, he worked for Harmon Ok Tire in Falls City. When married the couple established their home in Kansas City where he worked as a roofer until taking employment with Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1970. They moved to Nebraska City in 1971 and he continued to work for the Union Pacific Railroad until 2010 when he retired. He had served on the Volunteer Rescue Squad at Nebraska City and enjoyed golf and fishing in his retirement.

He was a member of Nebraska City Elks Lodge.

 Sam is survived by his wife, Jane, of Nebraska City; daughter, Teresa (Brian) Hardy, of Randolph, IA; son, Tom Thomas and friend Meredith Flanagan, of Arlington, VA; sisters, Dorothy (Don) Sailors, of Falls City; Linda (Dennis) Bauman, of Falls City; grandchildren, Corey, Jacob (Tawnie), Thomas and Olivia Ware, and Brendan Hardy; great-grandchildren, Natalee, Bentlee and one on the way, whom will be named Audrey.

He was preceded in death by his parent; brothers, Edward and David Thomas.

 Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th and Towle), with Rev, Andrew Chavanak officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
