Edwin Werner

 Edwin Werner, 85, of Salem, passed away April 23, 2014 at his home. He was born Feb. 14, 1929 at the current family residence location to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Wilhelm) Werner.

Edwin served in the Nebraska National Guard.

On June 1, 1958 he married Norma Bruhn at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Falls City

Edwin was raised in the Salem area and attended country school and attended Salem High School. Following his schooling he helped his father farm. He was also employed at Frontier Homes, Sunset Campers and then he and Ray Simon started Simon Werner Construction. Ed retired from carpentry work in 1991 and farming after that. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing during his retirement. He was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council for many years.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Norma of Salem; son, Jim (Pam), Centennial, CO; daughter, Paulette (Steven) Carlson, of Casper, WY; sisters, Dorothy (Harold) Vollmer, of Falls City, Anita Pickard of Verdon; sister-in-law, Caroline Werner of Falls City; and a step-granddaughter, Melissa Miller-Dunham and her husband Scott, of Toronto, Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert and Charles, nephew, Tim Pickard and a niece, Lynett Wood.

A funeral service was held Monday, April 28, 2014 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Rev. John Sipf officiating. Interment in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
