Wilma E. Luehrs

Wilma Elaine (Goemans) Luehrs, 86, of Humboldt, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt. She was born Dec. 21, 1927 in Hull, Iowa to Rev. William and Emily (Mueller) Goemans.

Wilma graduated from Mead High School with the class of 1947. After graduating, Wilma worked in an Ordinance plant in Mead until being married.

On Aug. 1, 1954, Wilma married Charles J. Luehrs. The couple made their home in Plattsmouth before she moved to Humboldt. In 1968, Wilma became the first Director of Nursing at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt. This was a position she held until her retirement in 1991.

She was a member of The Humboldt Bible Church and a staff member of the nursing home for many years, serving and aiding many residents and families in the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Alisha D. Hunzeker.

Wilma is survived by her daughter, April (Roger) Hunzeker, of West Branson, MO; grandchildren, Joshua J. (Alice) Hunzeker, of West Point, Amber D. Hunzeker, of Amity, OR; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at The Humboldt Bible Church in Humboldt, with Pastor Dan Dallmann officiating.

Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt. Inurnment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery at a later date. Memorials contributions are suggested to The Humboldt Bible Church or the Colonial Acres Nursing Home.
