Marilynn Bernecker

Marilynn Lee (Mills) Bernecker, 84, of Humboldt, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at the Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln. She was born on Feb. 12, 1929, in Lincoln, the daughter of Harold and Leah (Brown) Mills.  

She grew up in Lincoln, attended public schools, and graduated from Lincoln High School.  

On Oct. 12, 1948, Marilynn married Orville L. Bernecker in Lincoln. The couple lived in Weeping Water from 1948 to 1953 and then in Lincoln from 1953 to 1956. From there, they moved to Humboldt, where they lived until his passing on Oct. 22, 1996.  Marilynn remained in Humboldt until her death.

Marilynn was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she played the organ. She was employed at the Home State Bank in Humboldt from September 1963 to April 1985. She was an active volunteer at the Bruun Memorial Library and also enjoyed her time with friends in her bridge group, book club and volunteering at the Richardson County Fair.  

Marilynn is survived by sons, Mike (Shirley) Bernecker, Plainview, and Jerry (Jane) Bernecker, of Rice Lake, WI; daughter, Judy Bernecker, Palatine, IL; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Morgan, Lincoln; sister-in-law, Vivian Dean, Medical Lake, WA; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 10, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt, with Rev. Matthew Mortenson officiating. Interment was at the Humboldt Cemetery.  Visitation was Thursday at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Bruun Memorial Library Fund or the Faith Lutheran Church.
