Edna M. Michel

Edna M. Michel, 85, of Falls City, passed away Sept. 28, 2013 at Falls City. She was born Feb. 29, 1928 east of Falls City to the late Nick and Katherine (Frederick) Schawang.

On June 28, 1948 she married Philip J. Michel at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Rulo. He passed away Sept. 1, 1991.

Edna was raised on her parent’s farm three miles south of Barada, living there until she married Philip. They established their home on a farm six miles northeast of Falls City, raising crops and livestock. She was a full working partner on the fields and in the home. She moved from the family farm into Falls City in 2007. Family was always the center point of her life; and her greatest joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was especially fond of the times her grandchildren would spend nights and extended periods with her on the farm.

After the death of her husband in 1991, she became a tireless volunteer for her church and community. She worked at Sts. Peter & Paul’s bi-weekly bingo, funeral dinner volunteer and Bloodmobile. She greatly enjoyed working with her friends in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, marching in parades, working at the American Legion fish fry, selling poppies, and erecting the flags around the courthouse at holidays.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Falls City.

Edna is survived by her son, Philip (Rose), of Lincoln; daughter, Carol (Dale) Duerfeldt, of Falls City; brother, Earl (Yvonne) Schawang, of Falls City; sisters, Ruth Gruber and Mary Jane (Paul) Weinert, both of Falls City; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Matthew Duerfeldt, brothers, John and Paul Schawang.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with Msgr. Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest. Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with the family greeting friends afterwards.

Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, Falls City, is in charge of arrangements.
