UPDATED: Irish track teams capture district titles

Falls City Sacred Heart made a clean sweep of the Class D District 1 track tournament held Wednesday in Auburn, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams took home championships.

The Irish boys racked up 156 points, while the Lady Irish posted 116. Sterling was runner-up on the boys’ side with 120 points, followed by Pawnee City with 71. Diller-Odell just edged Sterling, 96-95, for the girls’ runner-up trophy.

Sacred Heart qualified 15 individuals – 6 girls and 9 boys – for the 2013 State Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 17-18 at Burke High School in Omaha.

Individual qualifiers for the Irish with their current grade, the event or events they qualified for with their district finish are listed below.

GIRLS

Kelsi Fouraker, sophomore: 800, 1st.

Rachel Parrish, junior: 100-meter hurdles, 2nd.

Elizabeth Magdanz, sophomore: pole vault, 2nd.

Abby Magdanz, sophomore: pole vault, 1st.

Maggie Goltz, freshman: long jump, 2nd; triple jump, 1st.

Emily Rohrer, sophomore: shot put, 2nd.

It was initially reported that senior Toni Kean and junior Kathryn Bieker qualified as a member of the 4×100 relay, as well as sophomore Nicole Fiegener with the 4×800 relay. Both relay teams finished second at districts, but did not qualify for the state meet.

BOYS

Yianni Haralabidis, junior: 100, 1st; 4×100 meter relay, 1st.

Clay Finck, senior: 100, 2nd; 200, 2nd, 4×100 meter relay, 1st.

Lane Barnhill, senior: 400, 1st; 4×100 meter relay, 1st; 4×400 meter relay, 1st.

Chaz Dunn, junior: 800, 1st; 4×100 meter relay, 1st; 4×400 meter relay, 1st; long jump, 1st.

Will Burenheide, senior: 110-meter hurdles, 2nd.

Sawyer Kean, sophomore: 4×400 meter relay, 1st.

Matt Mullins, senior: pole vault, 1st.

Austin Malone, sophomore: triple jump, 1st.

Henry Arnold, freshman: triple jump, 3rd, extra qualifier.
