All-State recognition for trio of FCSH standouts

Three Falls City Sacred Heart athletes were recognized as All-State selections over the weekend by the state’s two largest publications and 13 other county ballplayers received mention for their efforts this winter on the hardwood.

The Lincoln Journal Star’s Super-State and the Omaha World Herald’s All-Nebraska teams were published Sunday, along with their All-State and Honorable Mentions selections for every class.

Topping those lists locally were Sacred Heart’s Lane Barnhill, Abby Magdanz and Matt Goltz, who were each selected to Class D2 2nd teams.

Barnhill, a senior who missed all of the 2011-12 season with a knee injury, and Magdanz, who was one of only four sophomores outside Classes A and B to receive a 1st or 2nd team selection, were selected in both newspapers. Goltz, a junior and 2nd team selection last year by the World Herald, was named to the Journal Star’s 2nd team.
