The HTRS Titans remained perfect for the young season, taking down the Deshler Dragons 71-6 on Friday in Humboldt. HTRS dominated the Dragons at every turn, holding a 366-143 total yardage advantage, including a 191-68 edge on the ground.
QB Brandt Leech opened the scoring for HTRS, breaking the goal line from three yards away to give the Titans a 6-0 lead. Later in the first, Alex Koziol scored from six yards out to put HTRS up 14-0 after the first quarter.
HTRS exploded for five touchdowns and a safety in the second period to put the contest out of reach, leading 52-6 at intermission. JJ McQueen ran for and caught TDs in the second quarter while adding a safety on defense. Big man Ryken Davis caught a one-yard score from Leech and Brogan Dunlap got in the action, catching a 10-yard TD pass from Leech. The QB called his number from a yard away and just like that, the Titans led by 46 points halfway through the contest.
Hunter Bohling added a pair of second-half TDs, a 24-yard run and a 55-yard interception return to add to the Titan lead. Leech scored his third TD of the night, a 16-yard scamper, while the Titan defense kept the Dragons off the board in the second half.
Leech finished the game, completing 9/19 passes for 175 yards and three TDs. Leech ran for 71 yards on 12 carries on the ground and scored three TDs, while Bohling added 50 yards and a score on seven touches. McQueen hauled in three passes for 122 yards and a TD through the air.
Koziol led the team on defense with 11 stops and a fumble recovery. Bohling had six tackles and two interceptions, while McQueen had five stops, one sack and a safety.
The Titans host the 1-1 Southern Raiders at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Power Field. Southern is coming off a hard-fought 18-12 win over Diller-Odell.
