Melvin Duaine Fritz, 78, Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
Melvin was born in Falls City, Nebraska, on June 26, 1943, the son of George and Dorothy Crews Fritz. He graduated from Falls City High School in 1961. Melvin served in the United States Army in country during the Vietnam Conflict. He married the love of his life, Nancy Kay Benge, on June 28, 1964. Melvin retired from the State of Kansas as a Computer Programmer. He enjoyed camping, water sports and his lawn and garden. He loved predicting the weather and was known as an amateur meteorologist. Melvin’s true pride and joy were his grandchildren, who called him Papa. He adored spending time with them.
Melvin is survived by his children, Todd Fritz (Wendy) and Traci Helen Havenstein (Curtis); grandchildren, Sarah Miller (Noel), Zachary and Garrett Fritz, Madisyn and Maverick Havenstein; brother, Sterling Fritz (Beverly McQueen); and sisters-in-law, Darline Fritz-Daughty, Cookie Fritz and Bonnie Doll (Jerry). He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his siblings, Deloris Hixson, Meryle Fritz, Darleen Ginsbach, Gary and Donald Fritz.
A celebration of life will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 28th, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
