Ruth Gruber, 92, of Falls City, NE (formerly of Morrill, KS), passed away May 12, 2018 at Falls City. She was born September 27, 1925 at Rulo, NE to Nick and Katherine (Frederick) Schawang.
She married Carl Gruber on October 3, 1950 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Falls City
Ruth was raised in the Barada, NE area and attended rural school. Following her schooling she worked on the family farm while her brothers served in the military.
When married the couple established their home one half mile west of the Gruber family farm where they farmed and raised cattle. She was a farm wife, homemaker and gardener her whole life.
She lived on the farm until 2010 when she moved into Falls City Healthcare Community. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Falls City and the Altar Society.
She is survived by her children, Charles and his wife Jane, Daniel and his wife Helen both of Morrill, Ramona Schuster and her husband Jerry of Hiawatha, KS, Delmer and his wife Deb of Falls City, Roberta Meier and her husband Mike of Beloit, KS, Ruby Gruber of Hiawatha, Merlin and his wife Lori of Morrill, eighteen Grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, brother, Earl Schawang and his wife Yvonne of Falls City, sister, Mary Jane Weinert and her husband Paul of Falls City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, John and Paul Schawang and one in infancy and a sister, Edna Michel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas Dunavan as the presiding priest.
Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery.
A Parish Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7:00 PM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the rosary and the church.
