Donald Hey died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Donald H. Hey was born September 8, 1929 in Falls City, Nebraska to Henry and Helen (McComber) Hey. He graduated from Falls City High School in 1947 and received his Accounting Degree from Lincoln School of Business.
Don served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from January of 1951 to November of 1953. On August 27, 1956 he was united in marriage to Elaine “Elly” Keller at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. The couple moved to Kearney for a brief period before moving back to Columbus. Don worked as a self-employed accountant before going to work at Gerhold Concrete Company as Treasurer. Following his retirement from Gerhold’s Don continued to work from home as a private accountant. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served as treasurer and was on the counting committee. He was also a member of the Skyroamer’s Flying Club and served on the board for the Columbus United Federal Credit Union. Don enjoyed walking and was a devoted family man.
He is survived by: Daughter: LTC (ret) Jenifer Hey, M.A., M.P.T of Gretna, NE; Son: Steven (Tamara) Hey of Columbus, NE; Granddaughter: Katelyn Hey of Columbus, NE; Sister: Norma Lee Blackman of Salt Lake City, UT.
He was preceded in death by: Parents: Henry and Helen Hey; Wife: Elaine Hey in 2007.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 11 at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE, with Reverend Cory Burma officiating. Burial is at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus, NE.
