Helen L Gilfillan, 83 , Reserve, passed away Thursday April 26, 2018at Mosaic Life Care hospital in St. Joseph, MO.
She was surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born May 16, 1934 in Horton, Ks the daughter of Rev. Clarence Peter Broadfoot and Christie Lillian Rolfe Broadfoot Rose. She graduated and was valedictorian from Reserve Rural High School in 1952. On Aug 2, 1953 she married Curtis Dale Gilfillan in Reserve where they lived most of their married life. She loved to cook, garden, and can and tend her flowers. Helen worked as a CNA for nursing homes and individuals and cooked meals for her local school district. Other survivors include a daughter and son in law, Beth & Duane Strader of St. Joseph, MO, two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Ramona Gilfillan of Hiawatha, and Mark and Monique Gilfillan of Grand Junction, CO; a sister, Catherine Raper of Topeka, Ks: seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service is at 10:30 AM Monday, April 30, 2018 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Friends may call the funeral home after 10 a.m. on Sunday where the family will receive friends from 4:30 PM – 6 p.m. The Rev. Tom Stone will officiate, assisted by Blake Wyatt. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in the Mount Zion community northeast of Hiawatha with a luncheon following at the First Baptist Church in Hiawatha.
