Evelyn Jane Burns, 90, of Falls City, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2015 at Falls City. She was born Jan. 3, 1925 at Verdon to the late Dr. Clyde and Louise (Nagel) Medlar.
On Dec. 31, 1948 she married David E. Burns at Nebraska City. He passed away June 10, 2004.
Evelyn was raised at Verdon and graduated Valedictorian of the Verdon High School Class of 1942. She attended Doane College for 2½ years before transferring to University of Nebraska and earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She was a member of Cadet Corps, RSVP, Nebraska Alumni Association, United Methodist Women, Blood Bank Volunteer, Cub and Boy Scout and Campfire Girls Leader, 30-year volunteer for Reach to Recovery American Cancer Society, Senior Center volunteer, and in 1941 received a gold medal for National 4-H meat judging.
When married she was the visiting nurse for Richardson County Country Schools. During her life she worked at the Falls City Hospital at various times until retiring in 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Falls City.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Thomas (Carrie), of Plattsmouth; daughter, Mary K. Burns, of Lincoln; brother, Dr. Clyde (Jacqueline) Medlar, of Columbus; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. John Hogue officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
