FIREFIGHTERS STAY BUSY LATE LAST WEEK

    Three fire calls kept the Falls City Fire Dept. busy last week. Fire Chief Ken Simpson reported on two of the fires. On Thursday morning at 5:02 a.m., the fire department received a call at 923 Fulton St. and was on the scene at 5:05 a.m. The Fire Marshall is calling the cause undetermined at this time.
    At least $25,000 in interior damage was done to the home. In fact, the blaze caused a bedroom floor to fall through to the basement. Thirteen city firemen and seven rural firemen were on the scene to extinguish the flames.
    At approximately 4:20 p.m. the fire reignited. Simpson stated that a spark could have caused the reignition. Thirteen city firemen returned to the house until 5:41 p.m.
    The second fire occurred Friday evening around 5:06 p.m. at 1904 Schoenheit St. The homeowner had built a small wooden fence around the trashcan and recyclables area in the backyard and it caught ablaze. Simpson described the cause of the fire as “suspicious.” It remains under investigation. Twelve firemen worked about an hour to put the blaze out until 5:48 p.m.
