Dorothy Lou Ellen Tubach, 88, passed away at her home in El Centro, CA, on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.
She was born in Falls City on Oct. 23, 1924, to Frederick Augusta and Stella Marie Metzner. She grew up on the family farm. After graduating from high school, Dorothy attended Western Union College in LeMars, IA, completing a teacher-training curriculum. She taught 4th, 5th and 6th grades in Tructon, CO. On Dec. 12, 1945, she married Eugene Tubach, also from Falls City. They moved to the Imperial Valley in 1953, where they raised their four children.
Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in El Centro. She was employed as the church secretary for many years and later served as the financial secretary/treasurer. She sang in the church choir for 49 years and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Dorothy worked as the bookkeeper for an architectural and engineering firm and was also the senior administrator for the valley office of the Federal Land Bank. She was a long-time member and financial secretary of the Women’s Ten Thousand Club in El Centro and enjoyed taking part in civic activities. She was a long-time member of the PEO Sisterhood and was a past president and treasurer of Chapter GW in El Centro.
Dorothy was known for being one of the original “Ditch Bank Walkers,” a fitness fad unique to the valley’s geography.
She is survived by her four children, June (Tony) Fraze, Las Vegas, Gary, New Jersey, Roger, El Centro, and Roy, Salinas, a grandson and two great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Metzner and Betty Jane Tubach from Falls City, a brother-in-law, Jim Tubach, Manhattan, KS, and may nephews and nieces.
The Tubach family offered special thanks to the caregivers and nurses from Genetiva who took such good care of Dorothy in the past year.
A memorial service was held Oct. 19 at the First United Methodist Church in El Centro. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the First United Methodist Church.
