Falls City High split their two season-opening matches last Thursday at Humboldt-TR-S’ triangular with Johnson County Central.
FC lost to HTRS in a highly contested three-set match 17-25, 25-17, 25-23. Freshman Alyssa Frederick converted 13-of-14 serves for eight points, including four aces. Senior Madison Olberding put away nine kills, while Frederick and junior Lindsey Duerfeldt each recorded four. Junior Bailey Vrtiska led a solid FC defense with 22 digs, while Duerfeldt and Olberding chipped in 20 and 18, respectively.
FC defeated JCC in straight sets, 25-12 and 25-17, in their first match. Vrtiska served seven points, while Olberding and Frederick each put down nine kills. Junior Libero Chelsae Campbell led FC with 10 digs.
The Lady Tigers host Elmwood-Murdock tonight beginning at 5 p.m. for Parent’s Night and then then turn around for another home game Thursday when Class D-2 No. 7 Sterling and Pawnee City come to town. Thursday’s triangular begins at 5 p.m.
