Gladys M. Stokes

Gladys M. Stokes, 96, of Falls City, died March 26, 2013, at Falls City. She was born Dec. 8, 1916, at Falls City, to the late John and Grace (McCann) Constantine.
She married Ervin E. Stokes on Nov. 26, 1936, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church northeast of Falls City. Mr. Stokes passed away July 27, 1985.
Gladys was raised north of Falls City and attended the Williamsville School northeast of Falls City. The couple established their home north of Falls City when married and moved into Falls City in 1973. She worked at the Elk’s Club in Falls City and also did babysitting; she also had been a teacher’s aide at South School.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20th & Towle Sts., the BPO Elk’s Drove #56, the Morning Circle of the WELCA and Ladies Coffee of her church.
Gladys is survived by her sons, Harlan (Eula) Stokes, of Sabetha, KS, and Donald (Rose) Stokes, of Falls City; daughter, Karen (Raymond) Simon, of Falls City; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Edwin Stokes, brother, Wilbur Constantine, sister, Helen Merz, and step-mother, Clara Constantine.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, 20th and Towle Sts., with Pastor Andrew Chavanak officiating. Burial in the Williamsville Cemetery north of Falls City. Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home in Falls City.
