Daniel Lewis Gruber, 72, of Morrill, KS, was called home to the Lord on February 26, 2026. His life was defined by his love of his faith, family, service to others, and agriculture.
Dan was born on February 24, 1954, to Carl and Ruth (Schawang) Gruber. He married Helen Sextro on April 12, 1980, in Hiawatha, KS. They made their home north of Morrill, KS, where they fully integrated into the farming life. There they also instilled a love of Christ and servitude in their six children, Elizabeth, Amanda, Adam, Raymond, Jacob, and Theresa. With great joy, he spent hours supporting their children and their families by attending ball games, listening to band/choir events, teaching them to fish, and honing their gardening skills.
Dan embodied being a servant of the Lord. He was a volunteer in many areas of life: Morrill Fire Department, Sacred Heart School Council, Sts. Peter and Paul Church Parish Council, Berwick Board, Sacred Heart School Bus Driver, Sacred Heart Handy Man and Snow Removal, Knights of Columbus, and Morrill Days Entertainment.
Dan is survived by his wife, Helen, his children, Elizabeth (Ryan) Johnson Berryton, KS, Amanda (Steve) Robinette Fort Knox, KY, Adam (Jessica) Gruber Hiawatha, KS, Raymond (Tiffany) Gruber Morrill, KS, Jacob (Shelby) Gruber Sabetha, KS, and Theresa Gruber Falls City, NE. He has 21 grandchildren: Janelle, Isaac, Tessa, Trent, Reece, Jordy, Aidan, Connor, Nora, Levi, Raelynn, Aryss, Paityn, Myra, Chloe, Ava, Keith, Jonah, Amelia, James, and John. Dan is also survived by six siblings – Charles (Jane) Gruber, Ramona (Jerry) Schuster, Delmer (Debbie) Gruber, Roberta (Mike) Meier, Ruby Gruber, and Merlin (Lori) Gruber. He also has many cherished in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Gruber, in-laws Kenneth and Rogatia Sextro, Rick Bassett (brother-in-law), as well as many aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Jim Meysenburg as the presiding priest. Interment followed at Falls City Catholic Cemetery.
A Parish Rosary was recited on Monday at 7:30 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. The family received friends following the rosary.
Viewing began Monday afternoon.
The family prefers memorials be made to; Sacred Heart School, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Morrill Fire Department, or Lewy Body Dementia Association.
