Mona Kay Godemann

Mona Kay Godemann, 68, of Dawson, Nebraska, was born on April 19, 1957, in Hastings, Nebraska, and was called to her eternal home on January 19, 2026, in Falls City, NE surrounded by her family.

Mona was born to Samuel Lee and Johanna Augusta (Schmitt) Hursh. She was baptized in Hastings, NE, and later confirmed on November 13, 1983, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Falls City, NE.

She was raised in Hastings until the age of nine, when her family moved to Lincoln. Mona graduated from Lincoln High School in 1975 and then attended college at Lincoln School of Commerce. She proudly served her country in the United States Air Force, enlisting on January 29, 1979, and was honorably discharged on December 31, 1990.

On June 23, 1979, Mona was united in marriage to Ted Godemann in Lincoln, Nebraska. They were blessed with five children: Todd, Chadd, Trevor, Christopher, Bethany and a bonus daughter from a previous marriage, Gina. The couple raised their family in Lincoln until September of 1993, when they moved to Falls City. In 2013, Ted and Mona settled into their new home on the farm outside of Dawson.

Mona dedicated much of her professional life to serving veterans. She began working in the Veterans Service Office on February 14, 2000, and was appointed Veterans Service Officer on January 1, 2014. She served faithfully in that role until her retirement on February 24, 2025.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod (six miles north) of Falls City, NE. Above all else, Mona was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were truly her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Mona was preceded in death by her son, Chadd Godemann; her parents, Samuel Hursh and Johanna Siegel; her stepfather, Eugene Siegel; her stepmother, Ruthetta Hursh; and her father-in-law, Glenn Godemann.

Those left to cherish her memory are Mona’s loving husband, Theodore (Ted) Godemann of Dawson; her children: Todd Godemann (Tiffany) of Falls City, Trevor Godemann (Katelyn) of Falls City, Christopher Godemann of Bellevue, and Bethany Godemann of Falls City; and her bonus daughter, Gina Scheitel (Phil) of Rulo. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Ramona Godemann; brothers Ernest Hursh (Marcia), Robert Hursh, and Daniel Hursh (Ruth); sisters Renae Logan and Patricia Saltzman (Jerel); as well as many nieces and nephews.
