Larry Schwarting, 90, of Falls City, NE, passed away December 31, 2024 at Falls City. He was born July 4, 1934 at Oakdale, NE to William and Hattie (Opplinger) Schwarting.
He married Marlene Sharples on February 14, 1954 at Tilden, NE
Larry served in the U. S. Army from March of 1954 and served at Ft. Lee, VA until being honorably discharged in March of 1956
Larry was raised in Oakdale and graduated Oakdale High School in 1952 and graduated from Wayne State College in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business, education, and industrial arts. He taught school and coached in Snyder and Friend, NE and also at Hull, IA. Following his teaching career he worked as an insurance agent for Horace Mann Insurance. He and Marlene purchased the Coast to Coast store in Falls City operated it for 21 years. Following his retirement he was a Commissioner for the Falls City Housing Board and worked part-time at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder.
Larry is survived by his wife, Marlene of Falls City, daughters, Ruth Jensen and her husband Roger of South Sioux City, NE, Kathy Gasper and her husband Jim of Omaha, NE Cheryl Guess and her husband Dave of Nebraska City, NE, son, Dave and his wife Beth of Victor, ID, Jeff and his wife Sandy of Falls City, eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren with two on the way, seven brothers and a sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy and a sister, Velma Johnson, brother, Dale, a son, Scott and a granddaughter, Desiree Schwarting.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rick Martin officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour before the service at the church.
