The Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office, in partnership with the Nebraska City Police Department and Otoe County Sheriff’s Department, will host a community engagement meeting to raise awareness about traffic safety, fatalities, injuries and seat belt usage. The meeting will also provide an opportunity to gather feedback from teens, parents and community members on local concerns and safety initiatives.
The meeting will be held at the Nebraska City Police Department/ Rowe Safety Complex, 1518 Central Ave in Nebraska City on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, from 5-6:30 p.m.
This event will highlight the critical importance of wearing seat belts, as more than 70% of individuals killed in crashes in Nebraska were not buckled up. Otoe County has the second lowest seat belt usage rate in crashes among all counties in the state. Wearing a seat belt significantly increases safety, making every person 45% more likely to survive a crash.
