Phil Aitken, 72, of Falls City, NE, passed away August 27, 2024 at Falls City. He was born June 21, 1952 at Falls City to Thomas and Irene (Hahn) Aitken, Sr.
Phil enlisted in the U. S. Navy on August 15, 1973 at Omaha, NE. He last served on the USS Mauna Kea and earned a Good Conduct Medal and a Meritorious Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 14, 1977.
Phil was raised in Falls City and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1970. He attended Kearney State College and played one season of baseball. He then worked construction until enlisting in the Navy. Following his discharge, he became employed by the BNSF Railroad. He worked in several capacities over the years and retired in 2014 as a machine operator and a CDL driver, on a crew that repaired rail and signals. He was an avid mushroom hunter and enjoyed time with his family and motorcycle riding. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Phil is survived by a special friend, Anna Fiegener of Falls City, brother, Robert and his wife Roxie of Falls City, sister, Mary Louise Donohue and her husband Terry of Omaha, NE, sister-in-law, Janet Aitken of Falls City, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joe and his wife Sherye and Tom, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Jim Meysenburg as the presiding priest. Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.
A Parish Rosary will be recited on Monday at 4:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the rosary at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
