Alan Arthur Heim was born April 30, 1937, in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Arthur W. and Lucile M. (Stratton) Heim of rural Dawson, Nebraska. Alan grew up on his parents’ farm and graduated from Dawson High School in 1955. He graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1959, with a BA, majoring in History. Alan taught for two years at Davenport, Nebraska, later worked at Hy-Gain Electronics in Lincoln, and then for 30 years in the Printing Department at Back to the Bible in Lincoln, retiring in 2002 and moving back to the Dawson farm. From 1961 to 1967, he served in the Nebraska Army National Guard. Alan was a member of Bethel Evangelical United Methodist Church in Dawson, and then the Humboldt United Methodist Church.
Alan moved to Colonial Acres Nursing Home Assisted Living in 2019 and lived there until his death. He always said how much he appreciated his comfortable room, the kind and helpful staff, and the good food!
Throughout his life, Alan was appreciated for his gentleness and kindness, for his knowledge of the Bible, and for his true tenor voice. He was also known for his love of good jokes and for his ability to remember them and tell them well.
Alan Heim died of natural causes at Colonial Acres, on August 7, 2024.
He is survived by his sister, Lorna Carter, and brother-in-law, Alex Donatich, of Lakewood, Colo., by his close cousins Dennis and Robin Thacker, Dawson, and by many cousins and friends, including residents and staff at Colonial Acres.
He was cremated and a memorial service is pending and will be announced later.
