Darlene Wright

Darlene Wright of Peru, Nebraska (currently Madrid, Iowa) passed away on July 28, 2024. 

Darlene was born February 5, 1941, to Russell and Alma (Fritz) Elliott near Verdon, Nebraska. She married Merlin Wright of Steinauer, Nebraska, on August 19, 1961. They were church members at Maple Grove Church (Tecumseh), Auburn Christian Church, and finally Brownville Christian Church. 

Darlene attended school in Dawson, Nebraska, and then obtained a teaching degree from Peru State College in 1964. She taught at the junior high and senior high levels at Cook, Brock, and Johnson for seven years. After she and Merlin had a son Kevin, she became a homemaker and gardener. 

After living near Tecumseh for 15 years, they moved to an acreage between Peru and Brownville. After Merlin’s death, she moved to Madrid, Iowa, to be close to her son’s family. 

Darlene’s passions included gardening, cooking, landscaping, reading books, jogging in fun runs, going on bicycle rides, petting cats, vacationing in Colorado, and feeding the birds. She enjoyed making scrapbooks of her grandchildren. 

Survivors include son Kevin of Madrid, Iowa (spouse Deanne), two grandchildren, Carsten and Talia, of Madrid, Iowa and her brother Dwight of Dawson, Nebraska. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 59 years. 

Funeral services will be held, Friday, August 9, 3:00 p.m. at Brownville Christian Church with Rev. Dr. Renae Koehler officiating. Visitation will be at the church 1:00-3:00 prior to the funeral. 

The family will also receive Iowa visitors at their Iowa home Thursday, August 8, 2:00-5:00. 

Services will be held at Brownville Christian Church on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. A visitation will be held from 1-3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
