Theodore “Ted” Meinheit, 74, of Verdon, NE, passed away March 26, 2024 at Falls City, NE. He was born November 30, 1949 at Grand Island, NE to Joesph and R. Maxine (Gebhard) Meinheit
He married Marjorie Snethen in 1969 and they divorced in 1985. He then married Janice “Janny” Spurgin on March 7, 1987 at Falls City.
Ted enlisted in the U. S. Army and after bootcamp he served at Ft. Benning.
Ted was raised on a farm east of Dawson and graduated from Dawson-Verdon High School in 1968. Following graduation, he did roofing and construction work before enlisting in the U. S. Army. When he returned from service he worked as a carpenter until become employed Union Pacific Railroad, working there for 22 years and retiring as a conductor in 1991. He then started his own carpenter business, Cornerstone Construction, doing residential and commercial carpentry work. He eventually became employed as a house inspector for Southeast Nebraska Community Action until his health failed in 2003. He was a member of Good News Assembly of God Church.
Ted is survived by his wife, Janny of Verdon, children, Thad Meinheit and his wife Ximena of Kansas City, KS, Nick Meinheit and his wife Krista of Kansas City, Jarod Meinheit of North Platte, NE, David Marteney of Verdon, Heather Howell and her husband Mike of Cedar Rapids, IA, brother, Bill and his wife Cathy of Yuma, Az, sisters, Mary Kathryn Deger and her husband Stephan of Fairbury, NE, LuAnn Moon of Kansas City and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mark and mother-in-law, Naomi Spurgin.
His funeral will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Good News Assembly of God Church with Pastor Tim Boatright officiating. Interment will be in Heim Cemetery at Dawson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-4:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
