Bernard “Bud” Gerweck, 91, of Falls City, NE, passed away April 28, 2023 at Falls City. He was born March 19, 1932 at Falls City to Albert and Barbara (Strecker) Gerweck.
He married Donetta Sumner on February 9, 1952 at Falls City, she passed away June 17, 1990. He then married Irene Jolkowski Rathman on January 25, 1992 at Falls City, She passed away July 13, 2017.
Bud was drafted into the U. S. Army in April of 1953 and served in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in April of 1955.
Bud was raised at Falls City and graduated Sacred Heart High School in 1950. Following graduation, he worked on the family farm and upon his honorable discharge he returned to Falls City and continued farming. He purchased an interest in the seed company in 1961 and sold out in 1972. He then purchased the Montgomery Wards in Falls City and owned in from 1974 until 1975. He purchased the Check-in Motel in 1976 and started in the carwash business in 1987. Bud always enjoyed going for car rides in his classic cars. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, BPO Elks Lodge 963 and American Legion Post #102.
Bud is survived by his children, Pam Bower and her husband Ken of Columbia, MO, Mike and his wife Lesa of Lee’s Summit, MO, Sue Gerweck and her special friend Mike Skeen of Liberty, MO, Rob and his wife Kristy and Angie Lampe and her husband Mike both of Falls City, step-children, Vicki Lehr and her husband Tony of Gladstone, MO, Chris Rathman and his wife Kim of Maple Grove, MN, a sister, Mary Ann Koelzer of Rulo, eleven grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, brothers, Everett and Harold, sisters, Verna Harrison, Edna Harold, Margaret Sinclair, and Eleanor Kean.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father James Meysenburg as the presiding priest. Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.
A Parish Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 6:30 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with the family greeting friends following the rosary.
