Michael “Mike” E. Richey, 60, of Sabetha, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Mike was born on June 18, 1964, in Topeka Kansas. He was adopted by Kenneth E. and Barbara P. (Hards) Richey and grew up in Hiawatha, Kansas, and Falls City, Nebraska. A “Jack of All Trades,” Mike had a passion for repairing things. Over the years, he owned several small businesses, including a motorcycle and auto repair shop, and a plumbing business.
On September 23, 1994, Mike married Diana (Workman) Richey, and they were blessed with two children. Following his marriage to Diana, he began working for the City of Sabetha, where he assisted with water and sewer line repairs, operated heavy machinery, and helped at the city power plant. Mike retired from the city in 2016 due to health issues.
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed riding motorcycles and building model trains and cars.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara; his paternal grandparents, John and Rose Richey; and his maternal grandparents, Harvey and Maude Hards.
Mike is survived by his wife, Diana, at their home in Sabetha; his four children, Crystal (Neil) Scrivens of Falls City, Nebraska, Tyler Richey of Auburn, Nebraska, Joseph Richey of Sabetha, and Kristina Richey of Sabetha; his nine grandchildren; his father, Kenneth of Falls City, and his sister, Kenna (John) Nixon of Falls City.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the United Brethren in Christ Church in Sabetha. Popkess Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
