Vicki Jean Owings, one of three daughters of Leon and Naomi (Taft) Harshbarger, was born October 16, 1951, in Falls City, Nebraska. Vicki grew up on a farm south of Stella, attending school in Stella and graduating from Southeast Consolidated in 1970. After high school, Vicki went on to attend beauty school in Lincoln.
On December 28, 1972, Vicki was united in marriage to Jim Owings at the same home she was raised in south of Stella. The couple would be blessed with two daughters, Melissa and Michelle.
For many years, Vicki worked as a bank teller at the Richardson County Bank in Stella. Vicki also served for 40 years as the Stella Village Clerk. She belonged to the Shubert American Legion Auxiliary and the Stella Garden Club. Vicki loved to spend time with her grandchildren and children. She was also an avid gardener and loved watching everything Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
On the evening of Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Vicki was taken to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, it was there that she passed away that night having reached the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 1 day. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Naomi Harshbarger.
Those left to mourn her passing include her husband Jim of Stella; daughters and sons-in-law Melissa and Bud Parrish of Auburn, Michelle and Greg Moser of Lincoln; grandchildren Trever and Lily Parrish, Hunter and Makenna Standley; sisters and brothers-in-law Linda and Eddie Shafer of Sabetha, KS, Jodi and Tom Robinson of Leawood, KS; sister- and brother-in-law Sharon and Weldon Dettmann of Humboldt; aunt Harvina Thomas of Falls City; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Stella Community Church officiated by Rev. John States. Carolyn Bredemeier played accompaniment for a duet sang by Lynn Lockard and Joan Wheeler. Hunter Standley and Makenna Standley served as urn bearers and Trever Parrish and Lily Parrish were honorary bearers. Burial of ashes took place in Stella Cemetery.
Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
