William “Bill” Woods, Sr., 76, of Falls City, NE, passed away May 28, 2024 at Falls City. He was born November 7, 1947 at Lloyd, KY to Leonard and Florence (Sullivan) Woods.
He married Sheala Stepp on November 25, 1966 at Wise, VA.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army on August 1, 1967 at Ashland, KY. He was a helicopter mechanic serving in Vietnam. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, NCO Professional Develop Ribbon, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Sharp Shooter Badge, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, 7 Good Conduct Medals. He was honorably discharged and retired January 1, 1990 at Ft Eustis, VA.
Bill was raised in Greenup County, KY and graduated McKell High School in 1965. Following his retirement from active duty, he moved to Falls City where he worked at the Farmer’s Coop and he worked there until it closed and then he took employment in Auburn. He then moved to Florida and worked for British Petroleum for 12 years and then moved back to Falls City in 2011 where he worked part time at Kwik Shop. He enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Valley Avenue Baptist Church.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sheala Woods of Falls City, son, William “Woody” Woods, Jr. and his wife Tina of Escondido, CA, daughters, Rana Frenzel and her husband Jeff and Sara Delp and her significant other, Michael “Rose” Turner both of Falls City, brother David Michael Woods of Grayson, KY, sisters, Mary Evelyn Medley of Greenup, KY, Edith Fallowfield of Elgin, IL, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Wesley Woods, Sister Margaret, and a grandchild, Kendal Delp.
His memorial service will be Monday, June 3, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at the Valley Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Chad Berry officiating. Inurnment will be in Steele Cemetery.
